Laity Sunday
October 17, 2021

Since 1929, across Methodism, Laity Sunday has been a special Sunday to recognize and to “celebrate the ministry of all lay Christians” (2016 Book of Discipline, paragraph 264.2).  The BOD further states, “Laity Sunday shall be observed annually, preferably on the third Sunday in October.” Originally, this day was called “Laymen’s Day.'' It was first mentioned in the 1944 Book of Discipline, paragraph 1483.  In the 1972 Book of Discipline, Laymen’s Day was renamed the gender neutral Laity Sunday.  You may find more information and resources here.

October is Pastor Appreciation Month

Let your pastor know how much you value his or her leadership.  Brainstorm with others in your congregation about ways you can affirm and encourage your pastor.

Also, the NYAC Office of Connectional Ministries is sponsoring a Clergy Day of Respite and Renewal at The Center at Mariandale, 299 North Highland Avenue, Ossining, NY 10562.  This will be a great opportunity for your pastor to exercise some self care.
