Greetings, my sisters and brothers,

I am writing to let you know that plans are well underway for our Laity Convocation on November 6, 2021. Our theme this year is "One In Christ - Tearing Down the Walls," from Ephesians 2:14-15:

The Messiah has made things up between us so that we’re now together on this, both non-Jewish outsiders and Jewish insiders. He tore down the wall we used to keep each other at a distance. He repealed the law code that had become so clogged with fine print and footnotes that it hindered more than it helped. Then he started over. Instead of continuing with two groups of people separated by centuries of animosity and suspicion, he created a new kind of human being, a fresh start for everybody.
(The Message)

We will have a time of worship, a chance to remember those who have joined the Church Triumphant this year, and a message from Bishop Thomas J. Bickerton.

We will also be looking at the book I'm Black, I'm Christian, I'm Methodist, edited by Rudy Rasmus.  We encourage you to purchase the book (from any of these vendors: Cokesbury.com, Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, Christianbook.com) and read it before the convocation.

Deaconess M. Garlinda Burton, interim General Secretary for the General Commission on Religion and Race, will facilitate our discussion.

This event will be held online, but we still need you to register.  The registration deadline is October 22. A link to join us on November 6th will be sent you you a few days prior to the convocation.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at 203-331-9653 or Roena.Littlejohn@nyac-umc.com.  Please share the attached flyer with your congregations.

Serving in Christ's name,
