Still in Mission

Despite the pandemic, United Methodist missionaries remain deeply engaged in work around the world. Normally, a number of them “itinerate” each year to visit the churches and individuals that support them in ministry. COVID-19 has put a stop to most travel but that doesn’t mean the missionaries aren’t available to meet virtually! Each month, we invite four missionaries to be in
conversation with laity and clergy throughout the church to share the joys and challenges they’ve experienced.

This month you will hear from:

You can join them on Zoom on Thursday, October 14 at 12PM (EDT) Registration is required.

Please feel free to share the attached flyer with your congregation.  For additional information, please contact Jill Wilson, chair of NYAC's Council on Missions (jillmwilson@comcast.net).

Basic ERT Training Course

The mission of an Early Response Team (ERT) is to provide a caring Christian presence in the aftermath of a disaster. These teams are neither a first response group of emergency workers nor a recovery rebuild or repair team; rather they fill a specific need in the early days after a disaster to establish the presence of the church.

Early Response Teams are intended to be small (7 to 12 people), self-sufficient and self-sustaining, with specialized skills for early response. While there are specific tasks assigned to early response teams, no task is more important than the people they serve.

The New York Annual Conference is offering a Basic ERT Training via Zoom this month.  The 8-hour course will be spread over 4 evenings: Oct. 19, 21, 26, 28, from 7-9 PM.  Participants MUST attend all 4 sessions to be considered for certification.  Deadline to register is October 12.

For additional information and to register, please click here.  If you have questions about the training, please contact the course instructor, Art Mellor: art12561@gmail.com.

Global Mission Fellow Opportunity

Calling Young Adults Who Are Interested in Mission Ministries

Each year, Global Ministries offers fellowships for young adults who would like to explore mission ministries.  The New York Annual Conference has not had a Global Mission Fellow for a number of years, but according to a previous GMF, the experience was life-changing.  For more information, videos from young adults who have participated in this program, and answers to questions you may have, please click here.
