Ordination Service Worship Guide for Sunday, June 10, 2018 – for worshiping in your home church with pieces of the worship liturgy of the day. Use all or parts for your worship.
The Service of Word and Table
for the Ordination of Elders and
Recognition of Orders
Sunday, June 10, 2018
10:00 a.m.
Hofstra University

Livestreaming of the full service will be available on www.nyac.com (Annual Conference Information).  A pdf of the full order of worship will be available on website. For those congregations joining the livestream and wishing to share Holy Communion, the blessing given by Bishop Thomas J. Bickerton at Hofstra will consecrate the bread and the cup in local churches.  A recipe for the gluten, dairy, soy and egg-free bread that will be served at Annual Conference can be found at: www.newpaltzumc.org/worship-2/communion.
This Worship Guide has been prepared for congregations that are not tuning into the live stream or celebrating Holy Communion, and yet wish to incorporate pieces of the Ordination Service, including a Reaffirmation of Baptism, into their local lay-led worship service.

GREETING AND PRAYER

The grace of Jesus Christ be with you all.
And also with you.
We come together to praise God, to hear the Holy Word, and to seek for ourselves
and others the power, presence, and direction of the Holy Spirit.
Let us pray:
Eternal God, by Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit
You gave to your apostles many excellent gifts.
Give your grace to all servants of your church,
that we may with diligence and faithfulness fulfill our various ministries.
Grant that we, your people, may follow where you lead,
perfect our ministries, and live in joyful obedience to your will,
through Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.

REAFFIRMATION OF BAPTISM                                                               See BOW 111 for full liturgy

Brothers and sisters in Christ:
Through the Sacrament of Baptism
we are initiated into Christ’s holy Church.
We are incorporated into God’s mighty acts of salvation
and given new birth through water and the Spirit.
All this is God’s gift, offered to us without price.

Through the reaffirmation of our faith
we renew the covenant declared at our baptism,
acknowledge what God is doing for us,
and affirm our commitment to Christ’s holy Church.

Pour out your Holy Spirit, and by this gift of water call to our remembrance
the grace declared to us in our baptism.
For you have washed away our sins,
and you clothe us with righteousness throughout our lives,
that dying and rising with Christ
we may share in his final victory.

All praise to you, Eternal God, through your Son Jesus Christ,
who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns for ever.  Amen.

Remember your baptism and be thankful. Amen.

Here water may be used symbolically in ways that cannot be interpreted as baptism, including sprinkling the congregation or inviting persons to touch the water.

LIVESTREAM WITH REWIND FUNCTIONALITY

The New York Annual Conference will livestream all of the events held in the Hofstra arena again.  You can find the agenda on the conference website – Annual Conference Information

In addition to livestreaming, you will be able to watch events going back four hours. So, if you come to the livestream late, you can hit the "rewind" button to go back four hours in the current stream.

For those who would like to view the conference at a church or other venue, our technology partner, GNTV has provided these guidelines:

Each viewing site must have high-speed Internet connectivity, a reliable computer, a good projector with a connection to a sound system, and preferably an individual who can test the connection earlier in the week.

You'll need to ensure that the Internet connection is sufficient during the viewing window. We strongly recommend a wired Internet connection to the computer you will be using.  We suggest you run a test and confirm at least 10 mbps download speed.  You can test your Internet at www.speedtest.net. In order to test the stream, you will be able to view the live stream from the Baltimore-Washington Annual Conference beginning with their opening worship at 7pm on Wed, May 30. The viewing box below will contain the same streaming technology from GNTV that we will be using when we stream from Hofstra (the current video is there as a placeholder).

In order to ensure that you are set up to receive the broadcast successfully, we strongly recommend you test with the exact equipment you plan to use. Make certain that you can see and hear the stream adequately during testing.

All of the links are available on the Annual Conference website – Annual Conference Information

Bring a Chalice from your Church

The Annual Conference Worship Team invites you and your church to share in the setting of the Communion Table for Opening Worship, Thursday, June 7, 1pm.  We are requesting that each church bring a chalice, which will be filled with juice and shared with the bread at round tables.  All chalices must be labeled with the church name and the name of either the pastor or lay delegate. NYAC cannot take the responsibility for incomplete or incorrectly labeled chalices. Please bring your chalice to the main stage of the Arena no later than 12:30 on Thursday.  An announcement will be made about where to pick-up chalices after the service.  If you have questions, please email Linda Willey at linda.willey@nyac-umc.com.
